Last Weekend in Tassie, Spend it Right

We definitely enjoyed our final weekend in Tassie - all along we had been so excited about Freycinet National Park and it came with very good reviews from everyone we talked to.  We booked two nights at a campsite and set up - and it was literally a few feet from a nice little beach.  Our site:
After setting up we headed to the beach.  Dave was more courageous than me and ventured into the water.  Here he is, literally sparkling clean:
Tricks on the beach for fun.
The next morning - our full day in the park - we set off for a nice long hike.  Sadly we were looking to do an extra-long all day trip, but ended up only doing about a 4 hour hike (turns out the longer ones are actually two or three days long).  In the end it all worked out - we went back to our camping spot for a good lunch and snack, bummed around on the beach some more and took a couple walks closer to our campsite.

Wineglass Bay: another one of Tassie's highly recommended sights, this is where we hiked to.  Very worth it.
Dave with a sunset smacking him in the face.
Our possum friends - they always find us.  This one was tromping around on the hood of our ute, making all sorts of noise in the middle of the night.  In the morning I looked at our truck and it had cute little possum footprints all over it.  They really would find any food you leave out, they don't miss any spots.
In the morning we took advantage of the showers (though they were cold showers, we still came out feeling refreshed!) at the Freycinet campground then hit the road around mid-day.  We stopped in Launceston for a nice lunch and to check out the Japanese Macaques that I had read about in the tour book.  It's a big public park where you can stop by and see a dozen or more macaques hanging out.  They were pretty cool.
We were there in time to watch a bagpipe group too.  Good Sunday afternoon in the park.
We made it back to Devenport by evening, set up camp at the same caravan park we stayed at the first and headed into town for the same roast special at the Irish Pub.  We also met up with a friend (through Denise and David's niece) and had a fun time hanging out and putting back a few beers.  On the ferry back we were a little more prepared for the length of the ride (10 hours...) but it still didn't help too much.  We took naps, read books, and watched "Where the Wild Things Are" in the little cinema they had.  Next stop once we hit Melbourne: Sidonia to visit Miranda - Denise and David's daughter.
